To get started, Revero requires a set of baseline lab tests so your provider can better understand your metabolic health.
These labs include:
- Complete Blood Count with Platelet, Nondifferential (CBC)
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
- Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C)
- High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)
- Fasting insulin
- Lipid Panel
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
- Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy
*Patients with type 2 diabetes may receive additional testing.
These tests give your Revero provider important information about your blood counts, blood sugar, kidney and liver function, electrolyte balance, inflammation, insulin levels, cholesterol, thyroid function, and vitamin D status. They are commonly used to help evaluate and manage metabolic health conditions, including insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes.
What each test measures
Complete Blood Count with Platelet, Nondifferential (CBC)
A CBC is a group of blood tests that gives your provider a general picture of your overall blood health. It measures red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This can help identify conditions such as anemia, infection, or other blood-related issues that may be relevant to your care.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel is a group of blood tests that gives your provider a picture of your blood sugar, kidney function, liver function, and electrolyte balance.
A CMP typically includes:
Glucose This measures the amount of glucose, or sugar, in your blood. It is commonly used to help evaluate blood sugar regulation and conditions such as prediabetes and diabetes.
Calcium This measures the amount of calcium in your blood. Calcium plays an important role in bone health, muscle function, and nerve function.
Sodium Sodium is an electrolyte that helps regulate fluid balance, muscle activity, and nerve function.
Potassium Potassium is another important electrolyte. It helps support fluid balance, muscle function, nerve function, and normal heart rhythm.
Carbon dioxide, also called CO2 or bicarbonate This helps show how well your body is maintaining its acid-base balance, which is part of keeping your blood chemistry stable.
Chloride Chloride is an electrolyte that also helps maintain fluid balance and acid-base balance in the body.
Blood urea nitrogen, also called BUN BUN measures a waste product that your kidneys normally filter out of the blood. This helps your provider assess kidney function.
Creatinine Creatinine is another waste product filtered by the kidneys. It is commonly used as a marker of kidney health.
Liver function tests The CMP also includes tests such as ALT, AST, ALP, albumin, total protein, and bilirubin, which help your provider assess how well your liver is functioning.
Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C)
A1C is a blood test that helps estimate your average blood glucose levels over the past 2 to 3 months.
When glucose is present in the blood, some of it attaches to red blood cells. This process is called glycation. The A1C test measures the percentage of red blood cells with glucose attached to them.
A lower A1C generally reflects better average blood sugar control, while a higher A1C may indicate that blood sugar has been elevated more often. Your provider may use this result along with other information, such as at-home glucose readings, symptoms, medications, and your health history, to understand your metabolic health and track your progress over time.
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)
hs-CRP is a blood test that measures a marker of inflammation in the body.
Inflammation can be influenced by many factors, including infection, injury, chronic health conditions, lifestyle, and metabolic health. Your provider may use hs-CRP as one piece of the overall picture when evaluating your health and monitoring changes over time.
Fasting insulin
Fasting insulin measures the amount of insulin in your blood after you have not eaten for a period of time.
Insulin is a hormone that helps move glucose from the bloodstream into your cells. Fasting insulin can help your provider better understand how hard your body is working to manage blood sugar. Elevated fasting insulin may be a sign of insulin resistance, even when glucose or A1C levels are still within range.
Because this test is usually done while fasting, please be sure to follow the lab instructions you receive before your blood draw.
Lipid Panel
A lipid panel measures fats in your blood, including total cholesterol, LDL (low-density lipoprotein), HDL (high-density lipoprotein), and triglycerides. Your provider uses this to monitor how your lipid levels change as you progress through the program.
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
TSH is a blood test that measures how well your thyroid gland is functioning. The thyroid plays an important role in regulating metabolism, energy levels, and overall hormonal balance. Your provider may use this result to identify any thyroid issues that could affect your progress.
Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy
This test measures the level of vitamin D in your blood. Vitamin D plays a role in immune function, bone health, and metabolic health. Many people have insufficient levels, and your provider will use this result to understand your baseline and monitor changes over time.
